Extreme Heat Warnings have been issued across parts of the Southwest and Southern Plains, including areas from Arizona to Arkansas, due to dangerously high temperatures and heat index values.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has projected temperatures ranging from 105°F to 116°F (40.6°C to 46.7°C) in regions such as Death Valley, the Colorado River Valley, and the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat poses significant risks to vulnerable populations, including older adults, infants, pregnant individuals, outdoor workers, and those with pre-existing health conditions such as heart, lung, or kidney disease. Heat-related illnesses, including heat cramps, exhaustion, and heatstroke, are a major concern. Heatstroke, characterized by a body temperature of 103°F (39.4°C) or higher, confusion, and loss of consciousness, is a medical emergency requiring immediate attention. Housing conditions, such as lack of air conditioning, further increase risks for residents in affected areas. The prolonged heat exposure may lead to increased emergency department visits and hospitalizations.
