IMD issues orange alert for heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand
IN · Published Sep 3, 2026
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Dehradun, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts in Uttarakhand on Wednesday.
A yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall and dense fog have significantly reduced visibility in Rudraprayag, causing travel disruptions and affecting daily life. Rural areas are particularly impacted, with agricultural activities halted due to waterlogged fields and excessive soil moisture. The warnings come amid concerns of landslides and flash flooding in the Himalayan region, which has already seen catastrophic flash floods in neighbouring Nepal. Saturated soil and swollen rivers in Uttarakhand increase the risk of further hazards during sustained heavy rain.
