• Delhi's air quality has worsened, slipping into the 'poor' category following Dussehra celebrations and the onset of cooler weather. On Wednesday morning, smog and thick fog were reported in areas such as Biodiversity Park near Akshardham, raising concerns about visibility and pollution levels. The Air Quality Index (AQI) readings at midnight showed high pollution levels, with Bawana recording 273, Dwarka Sector 8 at 262, Delhi Technological University at 248, and Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range at
• The seasonal drop in temperatures, combined with emissions from fireworks, stubble burning in neighbouring states, and other pollution sources, has contributed to the deteriorating air quality. The AQEWS forecast predicts that air quality will remain in the 'poor' category until at least October 23.

Impact & Risks

The worsening air quality poses health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. Poor air quality can lead to respiratory issues, eye irritation, and reduced visibility, affecting daily activities and outdoor events. The smog and fog may also disrupt transportation and increase the risk of accidents due to low visibility. Additionally, the accumulation of pollutants could exacerbate the seasonal pollution problem as winter approaches, making it harder for emissions to disperse.
