• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, rain, and strong winds over the next two days. A weather system moving from Haryana is expected to bring sudden weather activity, including intense thunderstorms, wind speeds of 70-90 kmph, and gusts up to 100 kmph in isolated areas. Rainfall activity is anticipated to provide relief from the recent heatwave, with maximum temperatures likely to drop to 34-36°C on June 12 and 35-37°C on June
• The IMD also forecasts a partly cloudy sky with light rainfall and gusty winds for Saturday, June 13.

Impact & Risks

The severe weather conditions could disrupt daily life in Delhi, with risks of lightning strikes, strong winds, and potential hailstorms. The gusty winds may cause damage to trees, weak structures, and power lines. Residents are advised to stay indoors during severe weather and avoid open areas to minimise the risk of lightning-related injuries. While the rainfall is expected to bring relief from the heat, elevated humidity levels may cause discomfort.
