• Delhi experienced its first 'poor' air quality day of the season on October 21, 2026, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 247 at 7 pm, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
• The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR to address the worsening air quality.

Impact & Risks

The poor air quality poses health risks, particularly to individuals with respiratory conditions, children, and the elderly. Prolonged exposure to air pollution can lead to respiratory distress and other health complications. The haze and smog also reduce visibility, potentially affecting transportation and daily activities. Two air monitoring stations in Delhi reported 'very poor' air quality levels, further highlighting the severity of the situation.
