• Delhi experienced its highest October rainfall since 2022, with the Safdarjung observatory recording 41.6 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending Monday morning, 13 October
• The rainfall has brought relief from heat across North India, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, with cooler mornings and nights reported. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts rain in 23 states and union territories on 13 October, with heavy rainfall expected in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Moderate rainfall is likely in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Lakshadweep, while light rain is possible in other states such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka.

Impact & Risks

The rainfall has provided much-needed relief from the heat, improving air quality in Delhi and bringing cooler temperatures to North India. However, the showers have also caused waterlogging in some areas of Delhi, leading to traffic diversions and minor disruptions. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are expected in isolated areas, posing risks to outdoor activities and travel. Residents in affected regions should remain cautious and avoid waterlogged areas.
