Heavy Rainfall Triggers Orange Alerts Across Multiple Indian States
IN · Published Aug 8, 2026
The southwest monsoon has intensified across India, bringing widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange alerts for Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging between 115.5 mm and 204.4 mm.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses risks of flooding and landslides, particularly in vulnerable regions like Uttarakhand, where continuous downpours have disrupted transportation and blocked roads. Lightning and gusty winds are also expected in affected areas, increasing the potential for localized damage. Coastal and low-lying regions in states under orange alerts are at heightened risk of waterlogging and infrastructure strain.
