• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across more than 15 states in India on September
• States such as Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Kerala are expected to experience significant weather activity. Winds could reach speeds of up to 70 kmph in some areas, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. Hill states face an elevated risk of landslides due to persistent rainfall. Additionally, a low-pressure system is likely to develop over northern Odisha, Jharkhand, and adjoining areas towards West Bengal, intensifying the weather conditions over the next 48 hours.

Impact & Risks

Heavy rainfall and strong winds may disrupt daily life, including road travel, visibility, and power supply in affected areas. Hill states such as Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh face a higher risk of landslides. Rising river levels in northern and eastern India could lead to localised flooding, particularly in areas that have already received significant rainfall. Agricultural regions may see damage to standing crops due to gusty winds and waterlogging.
