A fresh western disturbance is causing unsettled weather across India, with thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall expected in northern regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for heavy rainfall in parts of the Northeast and southern India. Delhi-NCR is likely to experience thunderstorms and strong winds from June 16 to June 21,
Dust storms may also occur in isolated areas. The southwest monsoon is advancing further inland, intensifying pre-monsoon activity in the national capital. Meanwhile, Himalayan states like Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are forecast to receive intermittent rainfall, raising concerns about landslides and travel disruptions.

Impact & Risks

The weather changes could disrupt daily life in affected regions. Strong winds in Delhi-NCR may cause falling tree branches and reduced visibility. Heavy rainfall in the Northeast and southern India could lead to waterlogging and localized flooding. In the Himalayan states, continuous rainfall increases the risk of landslides and road blockages. Dust storms in western Rajasthan, with wind speeds up to 80 km/h, may impact transport and visibility. Heatwave conditions persist in parts of central and southern India, adding to the discomfort.
