The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather update indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall over East Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh on August 20,
This is due to a well-marked low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh and its surrounding regions. Delhi experienced generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain in the past 24 hours, and similar conditions are expected to persist. Surface wind speeds of up to 18 kmph from the west direction were observed in Delhi during the forenoon.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall in East Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh may lead to localized flooding, waterlogging, and disruption of daily activities. Moderate to severe lightning activity is also expected over Bihar on August 22, posing risks to life and property. Strong winds could result in the breaking of tree branches and uprooting of small trees like banana and papaya, potentially causing damage to infrastructure and agriculture.
