Delhi Faces Severe Air Pollution Ahead of Deepavali
IN · Published Nov 6, 2026
• Delhi's air quality remained in the 'very poor' category for the fourth consecutive day on Thursday, 5 November 2026, with several areas experiencing 'severe' air pollution levels.
• The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported a 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 369, slightly down from 377 the previous day.

Impact & Risks

Severe air pollution poses significant health risks, particularly to individuals with pre-existing conditions, as noted by the CPCB. The high levels of PM2.5 particles in the air can lead to respiratory issues, cardiovascular problems, and other health complications. The situation is exacerbated by stubble burning and the use of firecrackers during Deepavali, which further deteriorates air quality. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions, are at heightened risk.
