• Despite the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from Delhi on 23 September, the city is experiencing rain and thunderstorms due to a depression over central India.
• This weather system, currently over north Chhattisgarh, is moving towards southeastern Uttar Pradesh, triggering widespread rainfall across north and central India.

Impact & Risks

The ongoing rainfall is disrupting normal activities in affected regions. In Ranchi, adverse weather conditions have led to the cancellation of 24 IndiGo flight movements. In Chhattisgarh, heavy rain and flood-like conditions have prompted the state government to declare a school holiday. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are under extremely heavy rain warnings, raising concerns about potential flooding and landslides. Other states, including Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand, are also at risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning, which could lead to localised flooding and travel disruptions.
