Nor’easter Weakens, Minor Flooding Expected in Northeast

• The storm, which caused significant damage and at least one fatality, is slowly drifting northeast from Long Island, New York, toward Massachusetts and into the Gulf of Maine. Coastal flood alerts remain in effect from the Delmarva Peninsula to coastal Massachusetts, with minor to moderate flooding possible during high tides on Monday and Tuesday mornings. Rainfall continues across New England, with up to 1.5 inches expected in parts of eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. High surf, reaching up to 12 feet, is also forecast along the coasts of Massachusetts and Maine.
Impact & Risks
The storm has already claimed one life, with a 56-year-old man in Brooklyn killed by a falling tree. Coastal flooding remains a concern, particularly in low-lying areas, and high surf could pose additional risks to coastal communities. While widespread flooding is not expected, urban flooding may occur in areas with saturated soils. Wind gusts of 20–30 mph are possible, but all wind advisories have been canceled.
