Impact & Risks

Heat waves can severely impact dogs, especially flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs and Pugs, which are at higher risk of heat stroke due to their limited ability to cool down through panting. Puppies, senior dogs, overweight dogs, and those with thick coats or chronic medical conditions are also more vulnerable. Hot surfaces such as asphalt, concrete, and sand can cause painful burns to paw pads, while prolonged exposure to high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or heat stroke. These conditions can escalate quickly, potentially resulting in organ damage or death if not treated promptly. Even short walks or brief exposure to hot environments can be dangerous.
