The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Tornado Warning for east central Tooele County, Utah, including areas near Dugway and Rush Valley, on Thursday, August 13,
The warning was prompted by a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado, detected near Skull Valley, approximately nine miles north of Dugway English Village, moving northeast at 50 mph. The warning was in effect until 6:30 p.m. MDT. The storm was accompanied by heavy rain, strong winds, and hail up to two inches in diameter. The NWS also issued a Flash Flood Warning for the region, which remains in effect until 9:15 p.m. MDT. Source time: 6:22 p.m. MDT.

Impact & Risks

The storm poses significant risks, including flying debris, which could be dangerous to those without shelter. Mobile homes are at risk of damage or destruction, and there is potential for damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles. Tree damage is also likely. Additionally, heavy rainfall has already caused 0.5 to 0.75 inches of accumulation, with another 0.25 to 0.75 inches possible, increasing the risk of flash flooding, particularly in burn scar areas like Jacob City. Power outages have affected 954 Rocky Mountain Power customers, with restoration expected by 6 a.m. Friday.
