• On 18 November 2024, Delhi experienced its worst air pollution levels of the year, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching the maximum limit of 500 at fifteen monitoring locations, including Dwarka's Sector 8, which recorded an alarming AQI of 1,927 according to IQAir.
• The Commission for Air Quality Management activated Stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), categorising pollution levels as 'severe plus'.

Impact & Risks

The severe air pollution poses significant health risks to Delhi's residents, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions. Prolonged exposure to such high AQI levels can lead to respiratory distress, cardiovascular issues, and other health complications. The ban on construction and demolition activities, along with restrictions on vehicular movement, is expected to impact daily life and economic activities in the region. The situation underscores the urgent need for sustainable solutions to address air quality issues in Delhi and the surrounding areas.
