The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall across several Indian states on September
This includes East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal. The rainfall is being driven by a quasi-stationary low-pressure system located over north Madhya Pradesh and south Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in various regions, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are also likely to experience heavy showers accompanied by lightning. The IMD has warned of strong winds and squally conditions in the Arabian Sea.

Impact & Risks

The forecasted heavy rainfall poses risks of flash floods, particularly in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, where warnings have been issued. Residents in affected areas may face disruptions to daily life, including waterlogging, traffic delays, and potential damage to infrastructure. Coastal regions and areas near rivers are at heightened risk of flooding. Thunderstorms and gusty winds could lead to power outages and tree falls in some locations. The IMD advises residents to remain cautious and monitor local weather updates.
