The Imperial Valley Healthcare District (IVHD) is emphasizing the importance of UV safety and hydration as temperatures soar across Imperial County during July.
In recognition of UV Safety Awareness Month, IVHD is urging families, outdoor workers, student athletes, and others spending time outdoors to take precautions against sunburn, dehydration, and heat-related illnesses.

Impact & Risks

The extreme heat and strong UV rays in Imperial County pose significant risks, including sunburn, dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Prolonged exposure can also increase the long-term risk of skin cancer. Vulnerable groups such as older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and individuals with chronic conditions are particularly at risk. Early signs of heat illness include headache, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramps, confusion, and heavy sweating. Residents are advised to monitor these symptoms closely and seek medical attention if they worsen.
