• A significant cold front is moving into El Paso, Texas, bringing a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory for far West Texas and southern New Mexico. The warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, to late Friday, Oct.
• East winds of 30–40 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 65 mph, particularly overnight. Temperatures are forecast to drop significantly, with lows reaching 52°F (11°C) by Friday morning and dipping further to 45°F (7°C) early Saturday. Highs through the weekend will only reach the low 60s°F (15–17°C), a sharp contrast to the typical 80s°F (27–29°C) for this time of year. Rain is possible in lowland areas, while higher elevations may see a mix of rain and snow by Friday. Scattered rain showers are also expected from Monday, Oct. 19, through Thursday, Oct. 22.

Impact & Risks

The high winds pose risks of property damage, including to trees and power lines, and could create hazardous driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to secure loose outdoor objects. The colder temperatures may catch some off guard, as they are significantly below seasonal norms. Additionally, the chance of rain and snow in higher elevations could lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Two high school football games in El Paso have already been rescheduled to avoid the worst of the weather.
