Kerala on High Alert as Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Persist
IN · Published Oct 22, 2026
• Heavy thunderstorms have been affecting several parts of Kerala due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts, warning of intense thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Impact & Risks

The ongoing heavy rainfall has caused waterlogging in several areas, disrupting daily life. Minor landslips along the Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil railway section have led to train delays and rescheduling. Disaster management authorities are on high alert as the risk of further landslips and flooding remains high, particularly in the ghat regions and low-lying areas. The IMD has also warned of potential lightning and gusty winds, which could pose additional risks to life and property.
