The Lane Regional Air Protection Agency (LRAPA) has issued an air quality advisory for Lane County, Oregon, effective through Thursday afternoon, August 6, 2026, due to wildfire smoke drifting in from Oregon and Washington.
The advisory affects areas including Eugene, Springfield, Cottage Grove, Oakridge, Westfir, Blue River, and parts of western Lane County such as Florence and the coast.

Impact & Risks

The wildfire smoke poses health risks, particularly to sensitive groups such as infants, young children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and those with heart or lung conditions. Smoke can irritate the eyes and lungs, and worsen pre-existing medical conditions. Residents are advised to stay indoors, especially during periods of high smoke concentration overnight and early morning. The National Weather Service has also issued a Heat Advisory for the Willamette Valley, with temperatures expected to reach the mid to upper 90s °F (35-37 °C), compounding risks for those relying on open windows for cooling.
