• Farmers in Ganjam and Gajapati districts of Odisha are bracing for another spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall due to a fresh cyclonic storm expected to hit Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday, November 3,
• The storm is likely to impact southern Odisha, exacerbating the damage caused by Cyclone Arnab and subsequent floods in September. Paddy crops in the milking stage are particularly vulnerable, with roots at risk of damage from waterlogging. The district has already suffered a 33% crop loss over 3,402 hectares due to previous floods.

Impact & Risks

The fresh rainfall could lead to further damage to paddy crops, especially those in the milking stage, as waterlogging may harm the roots. Farmers in Ganjam and Gajapati districts are already struggling with the aftermath of Cyclone Arnab, which caused significant crop losses. Additional rainfall could worsen the situation, delaying damage assessments and restoration efforts. The financial burden on farmers is expected to increase, with many already facing losses from previous floods.
