Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted for the 53rd time since December 2024, sending lava fountains as high as 500 feet and an ash plume more than 18,000 feet above sea level.
The latest episode began Thursday afternoon inside the Halemaʻumaʻu crater and ended after about 9.6 hours.
