Hawaii is bracing for a tropical storm expected to bring up to 20 inches (508 mm) of rain to parts of the state, just a week after Hurricane Lala caused significant damage.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm is forecast to pass south of Hawaii on Sunday, with the heaviest rainfall expected on the Big Island and eastern Maui.

Impact & Risks

The primary risks from this storm include flash flooding, mudslides, and localized strong winds. The Big Island and eastern Maui face the highest flood risks, with Oahu and Kauai also under elevated flood alerts. The saturated ground from Hurricane Lala increases the likelihood of rapid flooding and landslides. Coastal areas may experience large waves and minor storm surges, though the storm is expected to remain weaker and farther south than Lala. Residents across the state are advised to prepare for potential disruptions and hazards.
