Tropical Depression Two-C Approaches Hawaii, Heavy Rain Expected

The National Hurricane Center and Hawai‘i County Civil Defense Agency are monitoring Tropical Depression Two-C, which is currently located about 900 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Hawaii.
The system, with sustained winds of 35 mph (56 km/h), is moving west-northwest at 15 mph (24 km/h).

Impact & Risks

Residents of the Big Island and other Hawaiian Islands should prepare for potential severe weather, including heavy rainfall, flooding, and mudslides, particularly in areas already affected by Hurricane Lala. The National Hurricane Center warns of life-threatening flooding and mudslides in steep terrain and areas with saturated ground. Strong winds and high surf conditions could also pose risks to coastal areas. The exact track and intensity of the system remain uncertain, but watches may be issued for parts of the Hawaiian Islands as early as Thursday night or Friday.
