Kilauea Volcano: Lava Fountaining Likely This Week
US · Published Nov 5, 2026
• Kilauea volcano, located within Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, continues to exhibit signs of heightened activity. Intermittent lava flows from the north vent have been observed, with summit inflation shifting to deflation early on November 4,
• Elevated seismic tremor and sulfur dioxide emissions averaging 4,000 tonnes per day suggest ongoing volcanic activity. Episode 56 high fountaining is possible between now and November

Impact & Risks

Volcanic gas emissions, including sulfur dioxide, pose respiratory risks, while tephra fall may cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation. Lava flows remain confined to the crater but could change location due to intrusive activity. Ground cracks and earthquakes near the summit add to the hazards. Residents and visitors should exercise caution, especially in areas downwind of the vents, where vog (volcanic air pollution) may be concentrated. The closed area of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park is most affected by tephra fall and other volcanic hazards.
