• Geological Survey (USGS) has issued an update on the ongoing activity at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii.

Impact & Risks

The ongoing volcanic activity poses several risks, including the release of high levels of volcanic gases such as sulfur dioxide, which can create vog (volcanic air pollution) and cause respiratory issues. Lava flows, while currently confined to the Halemaʻumaʻu crater, can destroy everything in their path. Additionally, the potential for ground cracks, landslides, and earthquakes remains a concern. The USGS has maintained an ORANGE/WATCH alert level, indicating heightened unrest with an increased potential for eruption.
