Flood Threat Intensifies in Texas as Tropical Disturbance Develops
US · Published Jun 16, 2026
A tropical disturbance, designated as Invest 90L, is being monitored in the Gulf of Mexico as it brings heavy rainfall and flooding risks to the southern U.S.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has increased the system's chances of development to 50% over the next seven days.

Why It's Important?

The primary impacts include life-threatening flash flooding, particularly in urban areas and low-lying regions. Coastal areas may experience gusty winds and localized flooding. Emergency rescues have already been reported in Texas due to rapidly rising floodwaters. Communities in Houston, Corpus Christi, and Jackson are at significant risk, with flood watches and warnings in effect. The combination of tropical moisture and a stalled cold front will exacerbate the flooding threat through midweek.
