Heavy Rain and Flood Risk Loom Over Houston Region This Week
US · Published Jun 16, 2026
The Houston area is facing a significant flood risk this week due to a combination of a weak front and a slow-moving tropical disturbance.
According to Space City Weather, storms near College Station and Navasota are expected to move southward into Houston today, with the front stalling over the metro area.

Why It's Important?

The primary concern is heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding, particularly in areas prone to poor drainage. While the heaviest rain may fall over Galveston Bay, Liberty County, or Beaumont-Port Arthur, Houston and Galveston Island are not out of danger. Localized rainfall rates could exceed 6 inches in a short period, creating hazardous conditions for travel and outdoor activities. Residents in flood-prone areas should remain vigilant as the situation evolves, especially during the second half of the week when the tropical disturbance is expected to have its greatest impact.
