The water crisis is severely affecting residents, particularly those in Hyderabad's expanding outskirts and IT corridor, where reliance on groundwater is high. Borewells in these areas are unable to meet demand, and the gap between water supply and consumption is expected to widen as the city continues to grow. Over 330 of Telangana's 600-plus mandals have been declared drought-hit, and only about 500 of the state's 6,000 lakes currently retain water. The shortage poses risks to public health, sanitation, and economic activities, especially in construction and industrial sectors that depend on water for operations.
