The adoption of solar thermal technology could significantly reduce carbon emissions in industries that rely heavily on process heat, such as pharmaceuticals and textiles. For instance, replacing coal-fired industrial boilers with solar thermal systems could cut carbon dioxide emissions by up to 35,000 tonnes annually for a 10-tonne-per-hour boiler. However, challenges such as high upfront costs, land requirements, and a lack of tailored financing options could hinder widespread adoption. Without adequate policy support, businesses may be reluctant to transition due to longer payback periods compared to traditional energy sources like coal.
