Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, announced that India has entered a new phase in semiconductor manufacturing.
Currently, three semiconductor plants are operational, and the government plans to establish five to eight more facilities over the next seven to eight years.

Impact & Risks

The expansion of semiconductor manufacturing in India is expected to boost the domestic electronics industry, create jobs, and reduce reliance on imports. However, challenges such as high capital investment, the need for skilled labor, and global competition could pose risks to the success of this initiative. The development of a robust supply chain and infrastructure will be critical to achieving the government's ambitious goals.
