India's Agriculture Sector Adopts AI for Climate Resilience
IN · Published Jun 19, 2026
India's agriculture sector, known for its extensive arable land and diverse agro-climatic zones, faces significant challenges such as erratic monsoons, droughts, and crop losses due to pests and diseases.
To address these issues, the Annam.AI initiative has been launched to provide farmers with real-time, AI-driven agricultural intelligence.

Why It's Important?

The Annam.AI initiative is expected to benefit over 600 million people in India by improving agricultural productivity and resilience. Smallholder farmers, who make up more than 80% of India's farming households, stand to gain the most from hyperlocal, AI-based advisories. These tools will help mitigate risks associated with climate variability, pests, and diseases, which currently destroy an estimated 30% of crops annually. However, the success of the program depends on effective implementation and widespread adoption of the technology.
