Dogs exposed to high levels of air pollution during Diwali may experience coughing, wheezing, eye irritation, and difficulty breathing. Flat-faced breeds like pugs and bulldogs, as well as older dogs and those with respiratory or cardiac issues, are particularly susceptible. Prolonged exposure can lead to severe health complications, including respiratory distress and nasal damage. Additionally, the combination of smoke and loud firecracker noises can increase stress levels in dogs, causing them to pant excessively and inhale more pollutants. Immediate veterinary attention is required if symptoms like open-mouth breathing, blue or grey gums, or collapse occur.
