• India experienced its fourth-lowest southwest monsoon rainfall since 2001, with precipitation ending 13% below normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
• The country received 759.4 mm of rainfall between June and September, equivalent to 87% of its long-period average (LPA).

Impact & Risks

The uneven distribution of rainfall has raised concerns over agricultural output and water availability for the upcoming rabi season. Rainfed areas in East and Northeast India, as well as the southern peninsula, are particularly vulnerable to reduced crop yields and soil moisture deficits. The monsoon core zone received marginally below-normal rainfall, which may impact winter crops.
