The findings suggest that while deficient monsoons continue to pose risks to agricultural output, their impact on the broader rural economy has diminished over time. Smaller agricultural households, particularly those owning up to one acre of land, are increasingly reliant on wages and allied activities for income. Rainfall deviations still explain 39% of agricultural growth variation, but the resilience of the rural economy has improved due to diversification and advancements in irrigation and crop varieties. However, crop production remains vulnerable to weather shocks, which could affect food security and rural livelihoods.
