The Indian government has introduced a ₹62,500 crore Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS) to boost domestic production and exports of mobile phones.
The five-year incentive program, running from FY27 to FY31, aims to support local brands and sourcing.

Impact & Risks

The scheme is expected to benefit Indian mobile manufacturers and create job opportunities, while reducing reliance on imports. However, challenges such as global supply chain disruptions and competition from established international brands could impact its success. The initiative also aims to enhance India's export capabilities in the electronics sector.
