India Issues Fog Disruption Guidelines for Airlines This Winter
IN · Published Oct 30, 2026
• The Ministry of Civil Aviation in India has issued new directives to airlines to manage disruptions caused by winter fog.
• From 15 December 2026 to 15 February 2027, airlines are required to send timely updates on flight delays, cancellations, and rescheduling via SMS, mobile apps, and email.

Impact & Risks

The fog season is expected to cause significant disruptions to air travel across India, particularly in regions prone to dense fog. Passengers may face delays, cancellations, and last-minute schedule changes. Airports, especially major hubs like Delhi, will experience increased operational challenges, including managing passenger flow and ensuring safety during low-visibility conditions. Airlines and airport operators are required to enhance staffing and ground handling to mitigate the impact on travellers. The directive aims to minimise inconvenience and ensure smoother operations during the fog season.
