• The Ministry of Civil Aviation has initiated preparations for the upcoming winter fog season, expected to last from 15 December 2026 to 15 February 2027, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
• Airlines have been instructed to provide timely updates to passengers regarding flight delays, cancellations, and rescheduling through SMS, email, and mobile applications.

Impact & Risks

The fog season is likely to affect flight operations across various parts of India, leading to potential delays and cancellations. Passengers travelling during this period may face disruptions, particularly in regions prone to dense fog. Poor visibility can also pose safety risks for flight operations, necessitating the deployment of qualified crew and aircraft equipped for low-visibility conditions. The Ministry has emphasised the importance of timely communication to reduce passenger inconvenience and ensure smoother travel experiences.
