A rare June snowstorm has brought arctic temperatures, strong winds, and heavy snowfall to parts of the Rockies just days before the July Fourth holiday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter storm and weather alerts for portions of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming, which remain in effect as of Monday.

Impact & Risks

The snowstorm has disrupted travel and outdoor activities in the affected areas, particularly in higher elevations and national parks. Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road, typically accessible in summer, may face closures. U.S. 20 over Targhee Pass, a key route to Yellowstone National Park, is also under a Winter Weather Advisory. Homeowners in the region face risks of frozen pipes and power outages due to the heavy, wet snow. Travelers and hikers are advised to prepare for winter-like conditions, which could pose safety hazards in the backcountry.
