This new facility is part of a broader initiative to enhance meteorological infrastructure in the northern regions of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. The expansion includes the installation of Doppler Weather Radars, Automatic Weather Stations, and advanced forecasting services. These upgrades aim to improve weather monitoring capabilities and disaster preparedness in these geographically diverse and often weather-sensitive areas.

Why It's Important?

The enhanced meteorological infrastructure is expected to significantly benefit residents of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. Improved weather monitoring and forecasting will help mitigate risks associated with extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall, snowstorms, and landslides, which are common in these regions. The new systems will also support disaster management efforts, potentially reducing the impact of natural disasters on local communities and infrastructure.
