Impact & Risks

The rainfall deficit has led to varied impacts across the region. Higher elevations experienced intense rainfall, causing flash floods, landslides, and rockfalls, which pose risks to infrastructure and transportation. Lower areas, with light to moderate rainfall, may face water shortages and reduced agricultural yields. The steep deficits in districts like Badgam (65%) and Samba (92%) highlight the uneven distribution of rainfall, which could exacerbate localised challenges. Ladakh's near-total deficit (97.8%) further underscores the vulnerability of the region to changing precipitation patterns.
