A significant tornado outbreak swept across the Midwest on Sunday evening, resulting in at least two fatalities and widespread damage.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, nearly three dozen tornadoes were reported as supercell thunderstorms moved eastward toward the Ohio Valley.

Why It's Important?

The tornadoes caused extensive damage across multiple counties, including Jefferson County, Illinois, and Gibson County, Indiana. At least 20 homes were damaged in Jefferson County, with two destroyed, and power outages were reported due to downed trees and power lines. In Gibson County, several homes were completely destroyed, though no injuries were reported as of Sunday evening. Heavy rain poses an additional risk, with a Level 3 of 4 flooding threat in parts of the Central Plains, middle Mississippi Valley, and Ohio Valley. Residents in affected areas should remain vigilant for flash flooding and severe weather.
