The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall in Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts of Odisha due to a fresh low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.
Moderate to very heavy rainfall has been observed across the state, with Bhawanipatna recording the highest rainfall of 101.2 mm on Thursday.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses risks of flooding and waterlogging in affected areas, particularly in Kalahandi and Kandhamal under the red warning. Collectors in these districts are on high alert to manage emergencies. Gajapati and Nawarangpur, which are monsoon rain deficit, may see some relief, but overall, the state has received 19% more rainfall than normal this season.
