A rare Level 4 out of 5 severe weather threat has been issued for parts of Kansas and southeastern Nebraska on Monday, May 18,
The Storm Prediction Center warns of the potential for violent EF-3+ tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds. The severe weather threat spans a 1,000-mile corridor from North Texas to western New York, affecting over 80 million people. Supercell thunderstorms capable of producing long-track tornadoes and softball-sized hail are expected to develop in the afternoon, particularly in central and northeastern Kansas. The threat will persist into the evening, with storms likely organizing into a line and producing damaging wind gusts.
