Kerala-based state-run electronics company Keltron has been granted self-certification rights by the Ministry of Defence for three of its products.
These include an electromagnetic log for measuring ship speed, an echosounder for determining water depth, and an underwater telephone system for ship-to-submarine communication.

Impact & Risks

The self-certification rights mark a significant milestone for Keltron, enhancing its credibility and reducing the time required for product approvals. This development is expected to strengthen India's defence manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependency on imports. However, maintaining high-quality standards will be crucial to sustaining this certification and meeting the stringent requirements of the defence sector.
