Heavy Rain and Cyclonic Storm Expected in South India
IN · Published Oct 24, 2026
• The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across parts of South India on Sunday, October 25, 2026, due to a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal.
• Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to experience intense rainfall, with isolated areas likely to see extremely heavy showers.

Impact & Risks

The IMD has flagged a low to moderate risk of flash floods in certain watersheds and neighbourhoods of Kerala and Tamil Nadu over the next 24 hours. Intense rainfall could overwhelm drainage systems, leading to rapid runoff and localised flooding. Coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh and other eastern regions may face strong winds and heavy rainfall as the system moves closer to the coast by October 28. Fishermen and coastal communities are particularly vulnerable due to squally winds of 50-60 kmph, gusting to 70 kmph, over the Bay of Bengal on October 25.
