Residents of mobile and manufactured homes in Florida face significant risks during the upcoming winter storm season. These homes are 15 to 20 times more likely to be destroyed in a tornado compared to permanent structures, and they account for over half of tornado-related fatalities in the U.S. (WUSF, 2026-09-14). Many of these homes are located in areas with limited access to storm shelters, leaving residents, particularly the elderly and low-income populations, vulnerable. Language barriers and inadequate warning systems further exacerbate the risks for non-English-speaking communities, as seen during past severe weather events in the state.
