Orange Alert Issued for Coastal Districts of West Bengal Amid Heavy Rain Forecast
IN · Published Aug 30, 2026
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata has issued an orange alert for the coastal districts of West Bengal, effective until Monday.
A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, which is expected to intensify over the next two days and move across Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha.

Impact & Risks

The heavy rainfall poses risks of waterlogging and potential flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in the coastal and southern districts of West Bengal. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea along the North Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coasts due to rough sea conditions. The increased rainfall may disrupt daily activities, including transportation and outdoor events, in affected areas. Residents in the northern districts under the yellow warning should also prepare for possible localised flooding and reduced visibility due to thunderstorms.
