The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Kottayam and surrounding districts in Kerala, India, due to the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall.
The alert is in effect for August 2, 2026, with rainfall expected to exceed 204.5 mm in 24 hours.

The heavy rainfall poses a significant risk of flooding, particularly in low-lying areas near rivers such as the Pamba.
